About the authors
My name is Nicole Renee & I am a queer God fearing happy Black girl. I was born and raised in Hilltop, Tacoma WA. I stayed local and went to Pacific Lutheran University where I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work in 2015. Throughout my time, I worked in various departments across campus building a wealth of diverse experiences, participated in campaigns, and volunteered in the community. Upon graduation, I served as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in partnership with PLU and Keithley Middle School, as a College Access Coordinator. I then served as a Work-Based Learning Specialist within the three youth rehabilitation facilities in Washington. Then I worked with Treehouse as an Education Specialist in Bethel School District’s comprehensive high schools. Now, I attend Evergreen State College and I will graduate with my Master’s in Public Administration June 12th, 2020. I currently work as the new Center for Gender Equity Coordinator at PLU. |
My name is Maribel Collins. I’m an indigenous Mexican woman. I was born in Oaxaca, Mexico. I speak Triqui, Spanish, English, and German. I love to travel, hike, run, and meet people. I worked for the Mexican Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany; then, I worked for the International School for Graduate Studies Center at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. After living in Germany for 4 years, I moved back to Mexico and I started working for the Secretary of Tourism in Oaxaca, Mexico. I moved to Olympia, WA in 2015 and worked as a Spanish Speaking Communities Advocacy Specialist at SafePlace. I’m currently a bilingual Outreach Specialist for the Community Relations Office at the Department of Labor and Industries (L&I). I'm pursuing a Master of Public Administration at the Evergreen State College and will graduate in June 2020. In my free time, I like to volunteer with the Latino community to improve education and awareness on issues that impact immigrants. |
